Who are you and what do you do?
I am Jez Ryan form Bondi Beach, I own & operate a music news website called acid stag, as well as management & publicity agency Mammal Sounds.
Can you tell me a little about your company and what motivated you to become an entrepreneur?
acid stag began as a music blog back in 2010 without any real intentions behind it. It was more of a hobby really, a way of sharing some of the music I was discovering with more people than just my mates and Facebook friends. Over the course of 5 years acid stag has grown into one of Australia's most reputable independent music news websites.
Mammal Sounds began toward the end of 2012 taking on the management of Melbourne electro duo Back Back Forward Punch, Sydney disco-funk duo Midnight Pool Party in 2013, Brisbane-based producer CLN in 2014, and another Brisbane producer called Golden Vessel in 2015.
Also in 2015, Mammal Sounds started offering its publicity services to other artists from all stages of development, and with it being a paid service it has allowed me to be able to spend more time helping each of the artist's with their creative direction, their branding, their releases, and their overall career goals.
It's just so rewarding helping these artists get their music out into the world, helping them reach goals that had once seemed like such a struggle to them, watching them grow and make a career doing something they love - we all should be doing what we love for a living, I sure am!
How have your clients grown over the past year and what have you done to help push that growth?
Each of the artists I manage through Mammal Sounds have done really well during the time we've been together. Their play counts have gone from a few thousand per release to a few hundred thousand per release. They've all had radio play and website support from all across the globe, and the music they are writing/recording continues to evolve with each and every release.
I'm also great friends with all of the people I manage, and I think this is plays a big roll in your success together as a team. I'm really proud of each of these guys.
What are you business goals for 2016?
To help as many musicians reach their goals as possible, help them thrive and grow, while at the same time building a strong presence and reputation for acid stag and Mammal Sounds.
What is one tip you would give to young professionals starting out in this industry?
If you have dedication and perseverance, you can definitely make it happen
