Who are you and what do you do? My name is Hunter Thompson and I'm one of the editors at Run The Trap & Too Future as well as a partner at ALT:VISION
Tell us about your companies and what motivated you to work in the music industry?
Run The Trap is one of the biggest electronic music and hip hop blogs out there. Being an editor means working with artists and labels to line up premieres as well as sharing a constant stream of content for my writers to pick up. At Too Future, Sam Waggoner and I put up a playlist every week featuring tunes that we've been listening too recently. We also coordinate a mix series that has featured several up and coming artists like Louis The Child, Jai Wolf, SNBRN, and more. At ALT:Vision we are currently managing some really cool artists like Oshi, Cavalier, Kid as well as others.
I got into the music industry because music has always been my passion, even from a small age. One day I was tweeting at Adam (Founder of Run The Trap) and he asked me to join the squad. It's been a crazy ride ever since haha.
How have your clients and your business grown over the past year and what have you done to help push that growth?
Business has been booming the last year. Not only has Run The Trap and Too Future blown up but our artists have as well. We've been able to grow so significantly by posting quality content as spotting new trends in music before they catch on elsewhere. As far as the management side of things goes, things have really picked up speed recently. Many of our artists have hype around them so the emails never stop and our crew has to constantly communicate to make sure we are all on point.
Our goals for 2016 are simple. Continue to boost brand awareness for Run The Trap and Too Future as well as our artists. Getting people talking about and connecting with our brands and artists is the most important thing.
What is one tip you would give to young professionals starting out in this industry?
My tip for someone trying to get into the industry is to hustle. I've averaged over a post a day on Run The Trap since I started 2.5 years ago. This has opened so many doors for me and I've made a ton of friends and connections that are crucial to what I do. If you want something, you have to go out and grab it. Don't wait for it to come to you because it might not.
